September 1, 1996 Sunday Alt 10,850 ft
Coming to the lower end of Evolution Lake with the massive Mt Darwin headwall to the east. The upper ridge is about 13, 600 ft so this photo rises about 2,800 ft. Very impressive indeed. The trail at the base of the scree has been moved up off the grassy shoreline. Major construction project. The trail is filled with crushed fist size stone. Later at a rest break we talked with a temporaty ranger, in his 50's, who has been out here for about 45 days. Talked about an ongoing search for a ranger who went on a cross country trek and disappeared several weeks ago. We had seen posters about the search in Bishop at the NFS station.
