AMC FALL GATHERING
October 17-19, 2008
The Washington, DC Chapter is hosting the Fall Gathering, "Celebrate the Chesapeake," on October 17-19, 2008, at Sandy Hill Camp in North East, Maryland. Our website, will provide details and registration procedures.

Shannon Kelley has volunteered to be our First Photographer/Publicist. The Chapter Photographer/Publicist works with in the Communications Committee to promote awareness of the chapter in the community. This includes taking and/or distributing photographs about chapter activities within the chapter (through the web site and newsletter) as well as to other sources as deemed appropriate. She also creates press releases to foster awareness of the chapter and its activities in the community. For any events please contact her at outside@cox.net.

Family Outing Committee
The Narragansett Chapter would like to begin holding more activities for families so we have decided to resurrect the Family Outing Committee. The Committee would be charged with developing guidelines for the program, a schedule of activities and seeking volunteers to lead trips. If you are interested in participating on the Committee, please contact Tom Eagan at tce@psh.com

First short stretch will be on a seldom paddled section that includes a portage around a horseshoe dam at historic Hope Valley Mill. Abundant Mountain Laurel blooms will line the banks. Sat., Jun. 21. WPWA Source to Sea Paddle #3. Put-in: Alton Fishing Access, Hopkinton 9 am. Take-out: Potter Hill Road, Ashaway. 14.5 miles; one portage. Lunch at Bradford Fishing Access. This is the longest stretch. We will be paddling into the Pawcatuck River, just below our put-in point. Then there is a small broken dam that is easy to run at moderately high water. Sat., Jun. 28. WPWA Source to Sea Paddle #4. Put-in: Laurel Street, Ashaway 9 am. Take-out: India Point, Westerly. Lunch will be pizzas, at a private residence in Westerly. 10 miles; no portage. This final leg still holds a few challenges and lots of interest. We will encounter two stretches of class-two rapids. These are usually fun to run, but, if preferred, may be portaged with some difficulty. The last stretch of this leg will be in tidal waters. Expect wind and waves.
