Fall Gathering 2016 (yes, 2016)
The Annual AMC Fall Gathering is hosted by each AMC chapter in rotation. Our previous turn was in 2006 and now it our responsibility again in 2016. This event is a large operation and we need volunteers for organizing the event. The chapter organizational timeline is being followed for the event planning. A group of volunteers has formed a committee and will meet in August to tour the Alton Jones Campus where we plan to host the weekend. Planning has started. Contact our Chair, if you wish to assist. Bob Tessitore
Registration Open for 2015 Fall Gathering in New York
October 16-18, 2015
Come enjoy the fall foliage and beautiful autumn scenery at AMC’s 2015 Fall Gathering on historic Lake George! The 2015 Fall Gathering will be held October 16-18 and is being hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Chapter. Join AMC members from all chapters at Camp Chingachgook, nestled along the shore of gorgeous Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains. All AMC members and their friends are invited to enjoy this fun annual event! Registration for this event closes at 5:00PM (EST) on October 2, 2015. See the full information page. Narragansett Chapter members are encouraged to take advantage of this great event.
Narragansett Chapter Annual Meeting
Save November 7th
Our Annual meeting will be held on Saturday November 7th at the Save the Bay facility, and is a nice opportunity to meet other members while enjoying great food and presentations.
Our featured speaker this year is Ed Webster. If you are not familiar who Ed is, check out our registration page.
The Chapter's major awards, as described below, are also presented as this meeting.
1. The Appie of the Year award is presented annually to that person who, in an outstanding manner, exemplifies the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club. The recipient of this award receives an individual engraved plaque as a permanent memento and is also presented with a plaque with their name engraved, along with the names of the previous Appies. This plaque is retained for one year before it is passed on to the next Appie of the Year. The recipient of this award is chosen by the Narragansett Chapter membership and is confirmed by the Chapter Executive Board.
2. The John Clark Service Award is the Chapter's second highest honor. This award is given to the "unsung hero" of our chapter - someone who quietly goes about their business of contributing to the chapter.
3. Over the years, some members have given their time and talent to the AMC, and to our Chapter, for such a long time that other yearly awards do not express the appreciation the Chapter has for these members. To show our appreciation, the Chapter has inaugurated our Golden Appie Award. This award is not a yearly award but a lifetime achievement award for service to the Narragansett Chapter.
Please contact us if you have nominations for any of these awards. Bob Tessitore at bobtess@gmail.com
