Activity Registration Information Description (all start at 10:00am)
Local Hike going North Register with Leader: Jean Marie Josephson: kayakjmj@yahoo.com Come enjoy a 4 mile walk along the East Bay Bike Path as well as some quiet local roads to an old, historical cemetery: Little Neck Cemetery in East Providence. This is an active cemetery that dates to the Mayflower! It is located on a peaceful and small peninsula of land that juts into an inlet off of the bay. Wear walking shoes & carry some water; otherwise dress for the weather. I anticipate that we will be on the walk for 2 hours as the cemetery is interesting to explore.
Local Hike going South Register with Leader: Colleen Quattromani: cqkayaker@aol.com We begin in Haines Memorial State Park with its playing fields, boat launches, and picnic groves. The park, originally a farm, was gifted to the State in 1911 as a memorial to a local dentist, George B. Haines, by his sister. We will head south on the bike path and off into the Alfred Drowne Road Historic District in Barrington, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. We will see the Drowns' historic 1830 and 1856 homes and enjoy the views of the Providence River along the Barrington shore before heading back on the tree lined bike path for the afternoon presentations.
Flatwater Paddling Register with Leader: Linda Pease: 401- 351-2234 linda.pease@cox.net Explore Bullock's Cove. If wind and weather are good, we will have a "New England" paddle - we'll leave the cove and paddle north to Crescent Beach a place where Crescent Park "used to be." Maybe we'll get out on the beach and regale each other with stories of our visits to the former amusement park.
Sea Kayaking Register with Leader: Mike Krabach: 401-333-5350 mkrabach@cox.net A short kayak paddle. Weather and wind determine direction, but will be back in time for lunch at Haines Park. If the weather is nice we will cross the Bay and cruise along the shore. This paddle is suitable for beginners if they have a kayak at least 14 ft and has bulkheads. Paddlers must be confident in doing a wet exit if they use a spray skirt.
Bike Ride Register with Leader: Steve Harrington (sjhep1@hotmail.com) An easy bike ride on the East Bay Bike path from Haines Park, south to Colt State Park. Leaving at 10:00 am. We will turn back in time to have lunch at Haines at 12:30 pm. Bring water and helmets are required. Make sure your bike tires are properly inflated before coming.
