The Appie of the Year Award is presented annually to that person who, in an outstanding manner, exemplifies the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club. The recipient of this award receives an individual engraved plaque as a permanent memento and is also presented with a plaque with their name engraved, along with the names of the previous Appies. This plaque is retained for one year before it is passed on to the next Appie of the Year. The recipient of this years award is Scott Disnard. Scott has served the chapter in two capacities. He has served as sub-chair of the Young Members group for four years. During that time, he has led numerous trips for Young Members, he has worked hard to expand the leader group and member participation within that committee, and he has coordinated with other chapters in multi-chapter YM events. Secondly, Scott is a four season leader for Backpacking and Northern Hikes, and has led 16 trips, mostly entire weekends, for that committee since 2012. He has been active in connecting YM members and leaders into the Northern Hikes community and has been helpful in discovering new ‘talent’ for the committee. Scott has attended Mountain Leadership School, and is certified in WFA.

The John Clark Service Award is the Chapter's second highest honor. This award is given to the "unsung hero" of our chapter - someone who quietly goes about their business of contributing to the chapter. The recipient of this years award is Sid Wax.

Over the years, some members have given their time and talent to the AMC, and to our Chapter, for such a long time that other yearly awards do not express the appreciation the Chapter has for these members. To show our appreciation, the Chapter has inaugurated our Golden Appie Award. This award is not a yearly award but a lifetime achievement award for service to the Narragansett Chapter. This years an award went to Jack Schempp. Jack has organized and lead trips for 15 years. Some of the trips include a week long bike trip to the Cape and Islands. He has also lead other biking, hiking and skiing trips over the years. He has lead Major Excursions in Yosemite and the Canadian Rockies. His latest popular trips are the multi-event weekends, first at Squam Lake and now at Lake Winnipesaukee. More people have gone on his trips than any other leader’s trips in our chapter. His example has inspired many new leaders
This year Chris Shafer presented Dav Cramer with a 50 year pin. Dav is currently or Trails Chair.
