This shows the different growth rings (grain) for the four paddles. The Oregon paddle made from old growth wood is the 3rd down darker paddle. It has been rotated (from other paddles) by 90 deg to see the fine grain. It is the stiffest paddle. The next stiffest paddle is the Alaskan Yellow Cedar. The softest paddle is the wide blade paddle on the top.
