This paddle of about 12 miles was from Woody Point to Rocky Harbour at the mouth oif Bonne Bay. We had seen whales in the inlet that extends to Woody Point but could not get near them to photograph them. I think they knew where we were and avoided us. Leaving the inlet we paddled over to Norris Point where we could see a class of kayakers getting lessons. We paddled around to the west side of Norris Point and stopped for a most pleasant lunch beach. The smooth rocks were such that sitting on them was like sitting in a bean bag. They seemed to slide around and make a perfect seat. Above the beach was an elevated berm covered with wild flowers that had a grand view over Bonne Bay. The paddle out the Bay was tough with a 15 knot wind that bucked us all the way. The shoreline was typical of the Bay with cliffs reaching up at times a hundred feet or so. As we pulled into Rocky Harbour we realized why it was named as such. The rocks were so numerous and the shallow water required that even shallow draft kayaks had to go way over the the channel to get into the harbor. The town is quite stark with no trees of note. After a short food and rest break we headed back to Woody Point. Since we came out the Bay along the north shore, we went back along the south shore, this time with the wind at our back.
