While it's not necessary to be a member of the AMC to participate in activities, joining will put you in touch with more outdoor opportunities within the AMC. The AMC has nearly 90,000 members in 12 chapters, 20,000 volunteers, and over 450 full time and seasonal staff. The 12 chapters reach from Maine to Washington D.C. The Narragansett Chapter is the local Rhode Island affiliate. Our Chapter was formed in 1921 and has about 2,600 members. We hope that once you experience the AMC, you will consider joining.

Still not decided? Don't leave so soon. Look over our web site to see some of the activities we participate in. (For your convenience, you will notice that our main web page has not been closed when you came to this page, it is either behind this page or in your last tab.) If you are interested in finding out more about who we are and how we operate, look at Chapter Info in the top menu. Then look through our Photo Album on the front page to see a collection of trips and events. Don't forget to look at the menu for our Environmental activities which include Conservation trips and Trail maintenance. Our major outdoor fun committees are listed under Recreation in the top menu. We hike in Rhode Island and in Northern New England. We also bike, paddle, ski, do technical climbing and socialize. If you are thinking of becoming a leader in your favorite outdoor activity, we give you plenty of encouragement and help under Support Pages in the top menu. Also we have links to the main AMC web page as well as the other AMC Chapters that make up the AMC organization in the top menu. And be sure to look at our online newsletter the Gansett Gazette to see all the current and upcoming activities we offer. Want to see the calendar, we have that too. Those and other pages are under Activity Listings in the top menu.
All this for the price of a cheap dinner out for two, not including wine!.

The Chapter has activities suitable for new members throughout the year. You don't have to be a new member to join our activities. We welcome people who would like to learn about our Chapter and hope that they are interested enough to join.
