This ice chest is the product of two problems while car camping. The first is that a conventional ice chest has only 3/4 inch of foam insulation which results in buying a lot of ice during a weeks worth of camping. Or for ever how long your are camping. The second problem occurred in Maine at a campground that has racoons that prowl in the night when you are least able to defend yourself and your ice chest. If you can store it in your car you are OK, but this campground has the cars about 100 yds away.
The solution is to use heavier insulation for the thermal problem, and electrical shocking for the racoon problem. The only downfall is that the cooler is quite large and takes up valuable car space. But it is also much lighter than any commercial plastic cooler.
