With the weather going from heavy rain on Friday night to summer temperatures on Saturday, AMC members and guests enjoyed another weekend at the Cardigan Lodge in NH. Hikes to Mt. Cardigan with grand views (the clouds cleared on Saturday)and Orange Mountain were the order of the day. Kayaking on Newfound Lake was a windless summer day without any boats. The meals were served family style and were excellent. Breakfasts were of the same quality and in quantities beyond just filling you up. Saturday evening events included an astronomy viewing (along with a slide show on Saturday morning), a pumpkin carving, and contra dancing. Sunday was a partial day with ad hoc hikes to the mountains and to Welton Falls. View the full article. If you missed this years weekend, start thinking about attending next years event. [Extra Cardigan photos are in the Offsite Photo album by Karen Bucci and Lori Tingley Smith.]

This annual weekend was well attended and enjoyed by everyone, (notwithstanding the new camp policy requiring a lifeguard for prearranged swimming). Saturday started out and finished as a perfect clear day. Sunday started out cloudy and a few light showers, but finished with a clear sky. Again this weekend did not include the 3rd Labor day. Enjoy the photos and videos. If you don't see the videos it may be that you need Adobe Flash installed in your browser. (No photos have been submitted for the hiking or biking events for the weekend. If you have any photos, contact the webmaster.)

This annual weekend was attended by about 60 members and guests. Saturday started out with hazy overcast but eventually turned into a blue sky day in the 70's. Sunday morning was thick fog which burned of as the Sun heated up the air. Again this weekend did not include the 3rd Labor day, next year the event will have a full 3 day weekend. If you don't see the videos it may be that you need Adobe Flash installed in your browser. (If you have photos you would like to contribute from this weekend, contact the webmaster.)

A Fall weekend at the Cardigan Lodge for the Narragansett Chapter enjoying hiking, paddling, pumpkin carving and contra dancing. Saturday was bright and sunny with wind gusting to 25 mph on the mountain and lake. The weather clouded over Saturday night and Sunday was a light drizzle all day with temperatures in the mid 50's.

This years New Hampshire weekend was at Camp Winaukee on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Cabins opened right on the beach for swimming and paddling. This year hurricane Earl dissipated in the Atlantic and allowed what might have been a wet weekend, to become a brilliant weekend. The water was in the high 70's and the north wind dried out the air. All planned events were able to be offered.

This years weekend on Cape Cod again had a perfect Saturday but rain on Sunday, similar to last year. The schedule consisted of a nature walk on Saturday morning and another one after dark in the evening. The campground as usual during off season was quite empty, even though the Audubon Center had several events going on, not only at the Center, but other parts of the Cape. Because of the rain the paddle for Sunday was canceled, but on Saturday members enjoyed hiking, biking and some shopping.

An annual event on Squam Lake, NH, for hiking, biking, paddling, and yoga. Located at Deerwood Camp, the rustic camp overlooking the Southern Shore of Squam Lake, has all the amenities that make the weekend very popular. The camp has a waterfront beach and kayaks and canoes for use. Many hills in the surrounding area offer alot of hiking opportunities. Biking is popular in the surrounding towns. This weekend is a sellout every year. While the weather was a little damp and there was occasional rain, the heavy rain stayed down in Southern New England.
A weekend in the Massachusetts Audubon Wellfleet Wildlife Refuge gave an intimate view of the Salt Marshs and Terrapin protection programs. Camping in the spacious campground gave a feeling of cape openness without the crowd normall associated with Cape Cod. Nature walks were attended on both Saturday and Sunday. Other recreation included biking and paddling in Wellfleet Harbor. While an early Sunday morning downpoor and the forecast of more rain, sent some campers home, others managed to get an informative lecuture on the Terrapin recovery program on Lieutenant Island. Other references to the Terrapin are a concise description, and another program in Tampa Bay, FL.

AMC members had a perfect weather weekend on the East Cape Cod and National Seashore while camping at the quiet Massachusetts Audubon Society Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. On Saturday the group started the day with a walk down to the salt marsh and then used the rest of the day to explored the area in groups, or on their own, by hiking, biking or paddling. In the evening, people broke into groups and had dinner at various restaurants in the area. Sunday morning was the highlight of the weekend where members had a guided tour of the woodlands and salt marsh by an Audubon naturalist. The sanctuary is about 1200 acres, which has five miles of trails that traverse the eight natural habitats representing the diversity of Cape Cod. The Ester Underwood Johnson Nature Center is a model of green architecture, with composting toilets, a photovoltaic panel array and many other green building material and features.
